Missing 5-year-old found near home
September 2 was the first day of school in Millis, and it was also a busy morning for the Millis Police Department.
According to a Facebook post by Millis Police Chief Christopher J. Soffayer on that day, "Residents may have noticed a significant police presence in the area of Village Street this morning. The Millis Police Department responded to the area for a report of a missing 5 year old autistic child.
"Upon arrival, officers immediately began searching the residence and surrounding property while additional personnel canvassed the neighborhood and nearby wooded areas.
"The child was located approximately 100 yards into the woods and was safely reunited with their family. The child was not injured and was evaluated by the Millis Fire Department as a precaution.
"Thank you to the responding personnel for their quick and coordinated efforts. Most importantly, we are grateful this incident had a safe and positive outcome."
