Millis Trick-or-Treating safety guidelines

The Millis Police Department is wishing everyone a fun, spooky, and SAFE Halloween!

There are no set hours for trick-or-treating but, as ghosts, goblins, superheroes, princesses, and all sorts of creatures take over the streets, we want to remind everyone of a few simple tips to keep the night enjoyable for the whole community.

Trick-or-Treaters: Younger children should have an adult with them, while older kids should travel in groups. Stick to sidewalks and use crosswalks whenever possible. Bring a flashlight, wear bright or reflective clothing, and keep an eye out for traffic while you're collecting those treats.

Drivers: Slow down and stay extra alert in residential neighborhoods. Kids may be excited about their next house full of candy and could unexpectedly dart into the street. Put down the phone, eliminate distractions, and give trick-or-treaters plenty of space.

Homeowners: If you're handing out candy, make sure your walkways, stairs, and porches are well-lit and free of anything that could cause a trip or fall. And if you have pets, consider keeping them safely inside while the trick-or-treaters are out and about.

Parents: Before the candy-eating begins, take a quick look through those treats and make sure everything is safe and properly sealed.

Everyone: Look out for your neighbors, keep an eye on the little ones, and help us make Halloween in Millis a night filled with fun, laughter, and plenty of treats, without any tricks.

The Millis Police Department wishes everyone a fun, safe, and happy Halloween.
