Are all of Medway's walking trails owned by the town? The answer to this common query is actually "no." To be included in the Open Space newest walking trails flyer, any inclusive trail must be accessible to all Medway residents.

An example of a trail that is privately-owned but has an easement for townies is located at 44 Willow Pond Circle. Parking is at this address for the Willows at Medway, a 55+ retirement community, and Whitney Place, an assisted living facility, which maintains the land under the auspices of the Salmon Properties. There is a gazebo in front which is next to visitor parking.

Not only is the trail considered a walking trail but the canoe/kayak launch there could categorize it as a water trail stop along the Charles River. Opened in 2021, the trail was established by the Salmon Properties, and the ConCom of Medway with the help of 15 Boy Scouts from Troop 367, who all aided in clearing a nature trail. Bird watching, hiking, canoeing/kayaking and just enjoying the beauty of nature are positive attributes of this relatively new trail. A blue and white open space sign is located beyond the gazebo at the trail head and there is a beautiful view of the river as you walk a quarter mile to a short offshoot trail where old bridge abutments can be seen. The trail continues for another quarter mile where it splits for two options, though both end at the canoe launch.

Boots or hiking shoes are recommended to traverse the trail due to some wet spots and tree roots. Whether you are a resident of one of the communities there or live nearby, the one-mile roundtrip trail has proven to be one of the gems of the Medway Trails' inventory of great places to explore.
