The Millis Public Library is pleased to announce a significant expansion of its public technology resources thanks to the Massachusetts Broadband Institute's (MBI), a division of the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative, through its Connected and Online program.

The grant has enabled the library to add new desktop computers, laptops, and Chromebooks for public use, while also launching a new Chromebook lending program that will allow patrons to borrow devices for use at home. The library offers mobile hotspots for checkout as well, which provide internet access in conjunction with an internet-enabled device.

The expanded technology offerings are designed to help community members access online services, complete school assignments, search for employment, participate in workforce training, connect to telehealth appointments, and stay connected with family and friends.

"This grant will allow us to better serve our community by making technology more accessible to everyone," said Kim Tolson, Library Director. "Whether someone needs a computer to apply for a job, attend an online class, complete homework, or simply access the internet from home, these new devices will help remove barriers and expand opportunities for our patrons."

The library's new public computers provide additional access for patrons visiting the library, while the Chromebook lending program offers flexible access to technology for those who may not have a computer available at home. Chromebooks may be borrowed by eligible cardholders in accordance with the library's lending policy.

The devices were provided through the MBI's Connected & Online Program, a statewide initiative that distributes internet-enabled devices to libraries and other community organizations to help bridge the digital divide and increase access to education, workforce development, healthcare, and other essential online resources.
