July 2026 included another successful Medway Police Youth Academy.

According to Facebook posts made throughout the program, recruits learned the basics of drill and ceremony, and impairment testing; motorcycle policing; and how the department’s drone program can help locate missing people, document scenes, etc. They had a motorcycle demonstration by police motorcycle officers; and met with American K9 Detection Services during which a postal inspector K9 demonstrated the incredible capabilities of detection dogs and the important role they play in protecting the public.

Throughout the week, students also met with the Medway Fire Department which demonstrated its equipment; the details of marine patrol operations, boating safety and complications of water policing; met with the METRO Law Enforcement Council Dive Team to learn about recovery techniques and tools; met the Massachusetts State Police Air Wing; had a SWAT demonstration that highlighted the details of high-risk operations; learned about police tools and TASERs and how to evaluate situations and select the appropriate response while emphasizing de-escalation and public safety.
