Organizers hope it becomes annual event

The first Millis Community Day event will be held on Aug. 20 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Millis Town Park, 900 Main St. The event is rain or shine.

The event is being organized by the Town of Millis Community Day Planning Committee, “a privately organized, all-volunteer committee,” according to a Facebook post on the Town of Millis Facebook page on July 7.

“Millis Community Day brings neighbors together to celebrate the people, places, and traditions that make our town home. From local vendors to family activities, it’s a day designed for connection and community pride,” according https://milliscommunityday.com.

Alyson Rockwood is one of the organizers. “This was an idea following the last big event that took place in 2019.” It’s purpose, she says, is to “promote the town and essentially raise money to give back to the community and those in need.”

Rockwood invites people to “bring your lawn chairs and hang out for a while.”

Family-friendly activities will include a Kids Zone with bounce houses, face painting, DJ, balloon artists, obstacle courses, animal shelters, K9 demonstration, 40 vendors, food, a chili contest, and more.

Admission is free and there are some costs for food, drink, and activities.

Vendor booths and sponsorships are still available.

The planning committee includes Nick Fontecchio, Shelley Goes, Theresa Mahoney, Kay Peneda, Autumn Richard, Alyson Rockwood, and Gina Woods. The committee is partnering with the town’s police and fire departments, and the Department of Public Works.
