Local ingenuity saves big: Millis Fire refurbishes fleet for under $80K

The Millis Fire Department refurbished a brush truck, added a UTV for search and rescue, and outfitted its response trailer with added equipment.

The Millis Fire Department now has a "new" brush truck, special response UTV, and a well-equipped response trailer. On June 19, the MFD posted this announcement and message of thanks on Facebook.

"We are excited to reveal the refurbishment of our Brush 2 into Brush 1. Brush 2 had a large amount of rust and the bed was falling off, along with other mechanical failures and rather than replacing the truck for approximately $150-$200,000, we enlisted local shops and our own members to design and build this great truck that will now be useful for another 10+ years for under $25,000.

"In addition we added a special response UTV for search and rescue, brush fire response and [patient] extrication, as well as a response trailer outfitted with our large animal rescue equipment, brush fire equipment and search and rescue equipment.

"This entire project was completed for under $80,000."

The MFD expressed thanks to Johns Autobody, Shawn's Auto Repair, Yered trailers, Paul Johnson Designs, their dedicated members, and residents for their continued support.
