Raccoon's hide-and-seek turns to game of Twister

On June 15, Millis/Medway Animal Control posted this message about Animal Control Officer Erin Mallette's "game of Twister" with a raccoon.

"Animal Control received a call today from a resident who discovered two young raccoons having the time of their lives playing around the tires of her vehicle. Unfortunately for the raccoons, playtime was about to come to an abrupt end because the resident actually needed to use her car.

"As one youngster scampered off, the other apparently decided to take hide-and-seek to an advanced level and somehow managed to get itself wedged in the suspension springs near the tire. Because, of course, being a raccoon means every situation is an opportunity to test your problem-solving skills... and ours.

"ACO Mallette responded and quickly realized this was not going to be a one-person rescue. After several attempts to safely free the little acrobat, she called her partner in crime, ACO Cohen of Norfolk Animal Control-also known by her unofficial title: MacGyver.

"True to her reputation, ACO Cohen came up with the perfect solution. By carefully jacking up the vehicle, the suspension relaxed enough to create some much-needed wiggle room. This allowed ACO Mallette to perform what can only be described as a game of Twister with a raccoon and successfully extricate the furry troublemaker.

"The little raccoon was examined, found to be uninjured, and reunited with its sibling to continue making questionable life choices elsewhere.

"A huge thank you to Norfolk Massachusetts Animal Control and Shelter ACO Cohen for the assist. This rescue definitely required teamwork, creativity, and a healthy sense of humor. We couldn't have done it without you!"
