Medway will hold its annual Memorial Day Parade on Mon., May 25 and this year’s Grand Marshal will be Medway resident Peter Ciolek.

Ciolek was born May 16, 1946, in Punto San Giorgio, Italy. His father served as a soldier in the Polish Army fighting for the allies during World War II. After the war, Ciolek and his family emigrated first to Argentina and later to the United States, settling in Dorchester. He graduated from Boston English High School before enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1966. During his service, he was stationed at Naval Air Station South Weymouth, where he served as a crew member on naval aircraft conducting anti-submarine operations.

Ciolek later met his wife, Gloria, and together they raised two daughters, Kerry and Robin. The couple has lived in Medway for more than 50 years. A longtime local business owner, Ciolek operated a well-known glass repair company in the area. He has also been an active member of the Medway Memorial Committee, where he has been a dedicated advocate for veterans and a steadfast supporter of the community.

The Memorial Committee is honored to recognize Ciolek for his many contributions.

The town’s Memorial Day parade will step off at 10 a.m. from the former VFW building on Holliston Street. Ceremonies honoring the men and women who have served in the armed forces will follow at Matondi Square.

As in previous years, participants will include the Medway Police Department, Medway Fire Department, the Medway High School Band, the Worcester Kilties, veterans, town officials, and local community organizations. Veterans are encouraged to take part in both the parade and the ceremonies.
