On Feb. 26, Millis/Medway Animal Control shared the news that a red-tailed hawk that had gone missing in January from Medfield was found safe and sound. 

Millis/Medway Regional Animal Control Officer Erin Mallette told Medway & Millis News, “Trixie was actively hunting with her owner, a licensed falconer, when her GPS tracking device malfunctioned, preventing her owner from locating her after she failed to return. She was later discovered inside a chicken coop. Upon observing that she was equipped with falconry bells, the individuals who found her recognized that her presence was unusual and contacted our office.” The bird was soon reunited with her owner.

“Huge thanks to the thoughtful finders who trusted their instincts and reached out to [Animal Control Officer Kelly] Ward when they noticed something wasn’t quite right — especially a hawk wearing bells. That small detail made a big difference. ACO Ward remembered that Trixie had gone missing from a nearby town and was able to track down her owner and reunite them.
