Millis High School Drama Club takes a classic to the stage
Dec 29, 2025 07:56PM ● By Taryn Streck, Student WriterOn Nov. 21 and 22, the Millis High School Drama Club put on a captivating performance of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol.”
A staple holiday performance, the play follows the transformation of Ebenezer Scrooge, a bitter banker who initially rejects any form of charity. After being visited by four Christmas spirits, including his disgruntled former banking partner Jacob Marley, and confronting his past, Scrooge learns the importance of compassion and generosity. The play was directed by Victoria Bartley and managed by Shannon Graham, both MHS teachers, and choreographed by MHS sophomore Shaelyn Cronin.
The MHS production starred junior Kevin Brynczka as Ebenezer Scrooge, joined by Chace O’Connell as Bob Cratchit, Klara Sieczkiewicz as Jacob Marley, Rio Spies as The Ghost of Christmas Past, Aureja Johnson as The Ghost of Christmas Present, and Thomas Cranmer as The Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come.
The cast also featured students from the Millis Middle School drama club.
Brynczka said he enjoyed the opportunity to put his “own unique spin” on Scrooge. Taking “a well-known character in a somewhat unique direction” was a fun yet daunting challenge, and he certainly delivered. His departure from the stage to perform impactful monologues down the aisles of the auditorium left a strong impression on the audience. He thanks everyone who attended the show.
O’Connell stated that “A Christmas Carol” was “the most complex play we’ve ever performed in terms of production, yet had the most satisfying result by far.” The Nov. 22 performance concluded with a heartfelt goodbye to the club’s seniors, Chace O’Connell and Phoenix Silva, who have helped bring performances to life for years, both on and off the stage. “I couldn’t have asked for a better exit from the Millis High School Drama Club,” said O’Connell.
The MHS Drama Club will next take the stage in late winter with “terminal.”, an original play written and directed by O’Connell, as part of his MHS senior project.
