At its Dec. 15 meeting, the Medway Select Board recognized Adam French, a Medway 7th grader and a Second Class Scout in Boy Scout Troop 367.

French was the first to speak during Public Comment and said he was attending the meeting as part of work on a badge he needs on his way to Eagle Scout.

“I am attending this meeting as part of my work on the Communication Merit Badge, which requires me to observe how different points of view are shared on community issues. I appreciate being able to see how local government works and how residents and board members respectfully express their opinions.

“I want to thank the Select Board for the time and effort you put into serving our town. Meetings like this help students like me understand the importance of listening, clear communication, and civic responsibility. Thank you for allowing me to participate and learn from this experience,” said French.

Though the board typically does not ask questions during Public Comment, they made an exception for the scout.

They asked him his favorite subjects in school – English or science – and which was the most difficult badge he has earned so far.

He told the Board, “Probably First Aid because I did a one-week camp and you had to…do a fireman’s carry and it was kind of hard.”

Selectman Frank Rossi said, “In all the years I’ve been on the board, I don’t ever remember seeing someone like Adam come up and say this so, you’re the first, congratulations.”

All board members encouraged French to run for a seat on the Select Board in the future.
