MILLIS - On Dec. 12, Millis High School senior Mia Young hosted a delightful holiday concert at the high school. This event was part of Young’s MHS senior project, which aims to spread music throughout the community and benefit the Playing for Change Foundation, a global nonprofit organization that provides musical and social opportunities to youth in developing nations.
Young invited community members from Millis and surrounding towns to perform holiday songs. The concert included 16 performances, including choral and instrumental renditions of winter classics like “Baby It’s Cold Outside” and “Sleigh Ride.” Young closed out the concert by singing and playing the piano on “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” and “O Holy Night.”
Young said she was glad to see “a great turnout of performers from the high school band and chorus, a local church, and Millis students.”
MHS student Rylee Silvia, who sang a gorgeous cover of “Hallelujah,” said she was “happy that there was such a successful turnout for such a great cause,” adding “Mia did a really great job of running everything so smoothly.”
A night of holiday classics and delicious baked goods, the holiday concert cultivated a charming and friendly atmosphere, reminiscent of the spirit of generosity Young embodies.
Young said she is “truly impressed by all the different reform efforts [Playing For Change Foundation] is enacting, including ensuring gender equality, fighting desertification, and helping refugees overcome trauma.” The admission fee and raffle ticket proceeds will be donated to the Playing For Change Foundation.
Young would like to thank all of the event’s volunteers, performers, donors, and her mentor, Mrs. Bartley, for making this event possible. Young adds, “I am incredibly grateful that so many people came to support my project and a good cause.”
