At its Sept. 2 meeting, the Medway Select Board issued a proclamation declaring September as Hunger Action Month in Medway. Representatives from both the Medway Village Food Pantry and the Medway Food Pantry at Mahan Circle were in attendance to mark the occasion.

Hunger Action Month is a nationwide effort to raise awareness about food insecurity and inspire collective action. According to the Greater Boston Food Bank, one in three households in Massachusetts experiences food insecurity. Here in Medway, the two local food pantries serve approximately 1,000 residents who rely on community support to meet their basic needs.

One former client and Medway resident shared her story: “The pantry gave me peace of mind in a storm. Now that I’m back on my feet, I give back—because I know what it feels like to be on the other side of the table.”

Her experience is a reminder that food insecurity exists in every community, and that with support, neighbors can get through difficult times and even return to help others.

Residents are encouraged to participate in Hunger Action Month in simple ways—such as following local food pantries on social media, sharing posts to spread awareness, and supporting donation drives. Every action, big or small, helps strengthen Medway’s community response to hunger.
