What better way to spend your summer relaxing in the sun and reading a book. With the Millis Public Library, not only can you do that, but they can also make it into a fun game. 

This summer, the Millis Public Library is running an adult summer reading bingo through Sept. 1. Participants can either complete five squares in a row to win a bingo prize, or they can complete all 24 squares for an entry to the grand prize drawing. The bingo squares include a variety of reading challenges from “read a romance” to “read a book set in a place you want to visit.” 

Kim Tolson, director of the Millis Public Library, said many of the library visitors commented on the fact that they always had kids reading programs and challenges, but nothing for adults. While the reading challenges were intended for kids, the gamifying of reading appealed to adults as well. Esther Davis, MPL Adult Services Coordinator, got the idea for the Summer Reading Bingo from St. Louis Public Library and their reading initiatives. While some may love to read, having prompts can encourage even more reading, especially in the summer months.

Last year, Summer Reading Bingo had a great turnout with 233 players coming from nine towns in three states. Of these players, there were  22 five-square bingo winners. With 345 books read, the most read book was “One Italian Summer” by Rebecca Serle. Out of all 25 squares, the fan favorite was “Read a book you loved as a child”. 

Reading some new books can be a great way to both relax and exercise your brain this summer while soaking up the sun. Join the Millis Public Library Adult Summer Reading Bingo to win some prizes for your summer reading goals!
