Medway native, Lieutenant Colonel Michael J. Marin, of Guard Hill House in Front Royal, retired from the United States Army on May 31 after 23 years of honorable service. 

A decorated combat veteran, Lt. Col. Marin’s military career began as a ROTC cadet at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and encompassed four long combat deployments, service on the Joint Staff, and most recently on the Army Staff. 

U.S. Representative Ben Cline had ordered a U.S. flag be flown over the U.S. Capitol on April 19, the 250th anniversary of the Battle of Lexington and Concord, and that flag was presented to Lt. Col. Marin at his April 24 retirement ceremony and parade at Fort Myer. 

Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin sent best wishes from Richmond in a letter noting, “You are owed a debt of gratitude for helping to ensure that each of our citizens can enjoy our most cherished rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”

The U.S. Army ceremony in Virginia and the subsequent Army & Navy Club receiving line and reception in Washington, DC, were hosted by Lt. Col. Marin and his spouse, The Hon. R. Clarke Cooper. Massachusetts family and guests included Mr. & Mrs. Ronald Marin of Medway (his parents), Mr. Robert Marin and Ms. Kathy Caouette of South Yarmouth, Mr. & Mrs. Michael Corbett of Franklin, Mr. & Mrs. Charles Doucette of East Longmeadow, Dr. Meg Doucette of Carlisle, Mr. & Mrs. Rick LaMonica of Medway, Lt. Col. Lindsey Elder of Boston, Mr. David Peterson of Worcester, Ms. Amanda Gordon of Mashpee, and Major Arthur Gordon of Taunton.
