The Charles River Sinfonietta June Sunshine Concerts in Millis and Brockton this year
May 30, 2025 11:23AM ● By Staff MemberThe Charles River Sinfonietta will be performing two exciting programs again this June in Millis on Thursday June 19, 2025 and Friday June 27, 2025, both at 7:30pm at the Church of Christ on 142 Exchange Street and repeating them in Brockton on Sundays June 22, 2025 and June 29, 2025, both at 3pm at the Church of Christ on 1350 Pleasant Street.
Our first program will be a concerto for violin and piano with string quartet and double bass that Mendelssohn composed at the age of 14 that got performed in May 1823. But it never got published until 1999. Sarasate’s Caprice Basque and Johann Strauss’s Tales from the Vianna Woods will also be in the first program.
Our 2nd program will include Rebecca Clarke’s brilliant Dumka Duo Concertante for violin, viola and piano, and Philipp Scharwenka’s trio opus 105 that is the first of 2 beautiful trios for this combination of instruments he composed at the very beginning of the 20th century. And then there will be 2 movements we shall perform from a suite composed for 2 violins and piano, in 2015, by a young composer, Ante Buzic-Kudrik born in 1990 in Croatia.
We greatly thank the local cultural councils in Millis, Northborough, Brockton, Norton, and Chelmsford, and the MCC Festival Grants for helping support these concerts this year as well as the private and business supporters we have for making these concerts possible. The concerts are free and open to the public, and any donations are all tax deductible. We hope you don’t miss the chance to hear some of this wonderful music.
