Medway Senior Center Events for June 2023

LUNCH AND A MOVIE

Join us for lunch and stay for a movie. We’ll supply the popcorn! Show time is at 1:00 PM.

On Thursday, June 8th we’ll be showing the film "A League of Their Own!" Two sisters join the first female professional baseball league and struggle to help it succeed amid their own growing rivalry. Stars include Tom Hanks and Geena Davis.

The feature on Thursday, June 22nd will be "Grumpy Old Men," a 1993 American romantic comedy film starring Jack Lemmon, Walter Matthau, Ann-Margret, Burgess Meredith, Daryl Hannah, Kevin Pollak, Ossie Davis and Buck Henry. 

"La La Land," a 2016 romantic musical film, stars Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone as a struggling jazz pianist and an aspiring actress who meet and fall in love while pursuing their dreams in Los Angeles. This film will be airing on Thursday, July 13th.

On Thursday, July 27th the film we’ll be showing is "Forrest Gump" starring Tom Hanks. The film follows several decades in the life of a slow-witted and kindhearted Alabama man named Forrest Gump and his experiences in the 20th-century United States.  

BATTERY ELECTRIC VEHICLES TALK

Battery electric vehicles are becoming more common. Join us on Tuesday, June 20th at 12:30 PM for a discussion on electric vehicle basics - how they work, battery technology and charging, common features, etc.

PLAINVILLE CASINO TRIP

Join us on Tuesday, July 19th for a return trip to the Plainridge Park Casino in Plainville, MA. The bus will leave the Center at 10:00 AM and return at 2:00 PM. Space is limited; call or stop by the Center to sign up

BREAKFAST UPDATE

The last breakfast for the summer is on Wednesday, June 28th. Service begins at 8:00 AM and the grill is turned off at 9:30 AM. Space is limited and we are often at full capacity so come early! The cost is $4.00.

A CELEBRATION OF MEN

Our Celebration of Women event in May was a huge success and this month we’ll honor the men in our lives. On Monday, June 12th at 10:00 AM we invite you to bring in pictures of the men who have touched your life. We will celebrate fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and more! Join us at this informal event for coffee, donuts, muffins, and conversation as we reminisce about the special gentlemen in our lives. Call or stop by the Center to sign up.    


 MEDWAY SENIOR TAX WORK-OFF PROGRAM

The Medway 2022-2023 tax work-off program ends on June 30th. Hours must be turned in by the end of July. Sign up for the 2023-2024 tax work-off will begin on Monday, June 26th. You must come in to sign a new contract even if you participated in previous years. The tax work-off program gives residents aged 60 or older the opportunity to volunteer in town in exchange for a reduction in property tax.


 FUEL ASSISTANCE

If you were approved for Fuel Assistance last year, you will be receiving a pre-printed application form in August from SMOC (South Middlesex Opportunity Council) for the 2023-2024 heating season. To avoid delays in receiving your benefits, gather all your documents early and schedule an appointment with the Outreach department. We will review everything with you so you can submit your renewal application. If you don’t receive your form by August 31st, contact Outreach.  Note, the process for new applicants begins November 1, 2023.
