The time for rented suits and corsages arrived in Medway again on Friday, May 19, when the Medway High School Class of 2024 hosted the junior-senior prom at the Four Points Sheraton in Norwood.

Before boarding buses to the event, students gathered at the school decked out in shimmery mermaid-style dresses and black suits, occasionally shoving packs of Goldfish crackers into their bags for later snacking.

While most were too preoccupied to take a breath, senior Nora Kempner’s words of “genuine excitement” could be said for everyone.

As sneakered and heeled feet walked along the slightly frayed red carpet, parents took out their cameras and began photographing the moment the sunset fell on a blue sequin-encrusted dress. As students crammed into the seats of the silver buses, those of us who were not inside were lucky enough to escape the humidity of 55 formally-dressed teenagers.

Prior to departure, many students took a pledge given by the Substance Use Prevention Coalition ( ‘SUP) not to drink, smoke, or use any substances at any point throughout the night. Additionally, Medway families donated snacks, water, and money to give the juniors and seniors their send off.

As for the students, prom of 2023 was certainly a night to remember.
