Principal John Murray is pleased to announce that the Medway High School Concert Band, Treble Choir and Concert Choir Ensemble performed at the Massachusetts Instrumental and Choral Conductors Association (MICCA).
The statewide festival was held the weekend of March 31- April 1 at Hopkinton High School and featured all members of the Medway High School choir and band ensembles. In total, 152 bands and orchestra school ensembles and 80 chorus ensembles participated in this year’s event.
The groups performed three pieces of repertoire for three adjudicators who then scored the ensembles against a rubric of standards. After the performance, the ensemble received a private clinic with one of the adjudicators and was awarded a medal of participation, merit, bronze, silver or gold.
The Concert Choir and Treble Choir received silver medals. The Concert Band received a bronze medal.
“Our students' dedication, hard work and passion truly show in every performance, just as it did at the MICCA Festival. It’s wonderful to see our students recognized for their musical talents at the state level as they have committed much of their time and effort into making each performance a success,” said Principal Murray.
Members of the MHS Concert Band performed pieces by Karl King, James Swearingen and Balmages. The choirs presented pieces by Ogura, Mendelssohn, Thomas, Teleman, Ginsberg and Caldwell.
“I am so very proud of all the hard work shown by the ensemble during this concert season,” said Performing Art Teacher Amanda Webster.
At the statewide MICCA Festival, the performances last about 20-30 minutes. MICCA encourages and supports the development of elementary, middle and high school performing ensembles. The festivals include performances by marching bands, soloists and ensembles.
Members of the Medway Public Schools faculty, students, families and community members also attended the Festival to show their support.
