Medway High School Undertones Choir Ensemble Performs in MICCA Gold Medal Showcase

Principal John Murray is pleased to announce that the Medway High School choir ensemble the Undertones performed at the Gold Medal Showcase earlier this month.
The Gold Medal Showcase took place at the Mechanics Hall in Worcester on Sunday, April 10. It is held by the Massachusetts Instrumental and Choral Conductors Association (MICCA).
The Undertones were invited to perform after receiving a gold medal at the MICCA Choral and Concert Festivals on April 2 at Westboro High School.
At Mechanics Hall, the Undertones, under the direction of Ashley Nelson-Oneschuk, performed “Brothers, Sing On!” by Edvard Grieg, arranged by Howard D. McKinney; «Three Latin Songs» by Laura Farnell; and “Bound for the Promised Land” arranged by Emily Crocker.
Medway Public Schools staff, students, families and community members also attended the Showcase to support the Undertones.
“The Undertones and I were beyond excited to have the opportunity to perform in a place such as Mechanics Hall,” said Matt Bullard, Undertones member and president of the choral program. “I think I speak for all of us when I say none of us thought we’d make it this far. This was also a huge accomplishment, not just for us but for the entire music program at Medway High School that has struggled during the pandemic and is slowly finding its footing again. This was the first step to regaining the credibility and community that we had, and I hope this leads to much more success and prosperity in the future.”
MICCA encourages and supports the development of elementary, middle and high school performing ensembles. The festivals include performances by marching bands, soloist and ensembles.
