Medway Senior Timothy Brown Receives Mickey Sullivan Award

Athletic Director Jeff Parcells and Principal John Murray are pleased to announce that Timothy Brown, a senior at Medway High School, recently received the Mickey Sullivan Student Achievement Award.

This recognition is awarded by the Massachusetts Secondary Schools Athletic Directors Association (MSSADA) and honors a student who has contributed to high school athletics in a meaningful and lasting way. Each of the nine MSSADA districts in the state nominates one student for this prestigious award. Brown was the awardee from District 7 due to his efforts not only on the field but also on the sidelines.

In the fall of 2019, Brown began volunteering as a scoreboard operator for the field hockey, boys soccer and girls soccer games. He also worked the scoreboard during the winter season and resumed scoreboard duties for the field hockey and soccer games in the fall of 2020. On game days, he is always there and willing to help Director Parcells with any task.

“Tim is a passionate Medway Mustangs fan and has been my right-hand man for the past couple of years now,” Director Parcells said. “He is always enthusiastic and willing to contribute however he can, and for that I am grateful. Not only do I appreciate his assistance, but all the coaches, players and officials enjoy seeing him at the scorer’s table as well.”

Brown is also a student-athlete himself and plays on Medway’s ultimate frisbee team. However, the team’s spring 2020 season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Tim is a great example for all of our students,” Principal Murray said. “His contributions to the school’s athletics department and activities have not gone unnoticed and we are very thankful for all he has done. This award is certainly well-deserved.”

The MSSADA awards ceremony typically takes place in March at the association’s annual conference, but due to COVID-19, the conference will not occur this year. Brown will be presented with his award at a later date.
